LCGA Exhibitions 2022

ReOPENING of LCGA

June 2019
Limerick City Gallery of Art

After the recent refurbishment works carried out LCGA, funded by Limerick City and County Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht through funding from the Arts and Culture Capital Scheme.

Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present three highly anticipated summer exhibitions, officially opening Thursday 20 June, 6-8pm

Robert Ryan:  Forgotten Existence

While Ryan is preoccupied with landscape his work cannot be described as 'landscape painting'.  Allegorical concepts including the infinity of space, solitude, vulnerability and the cycle of life are explored in his paintings and drawings.  A fully illustrated catalogue with essays by Dr Niamh Nic Ghabhann and Manchán Magan will be published to coincide with the exhibition.

Fiona O' Dwyer: I Went Up the Mountain With Someone Else's Story and Came Down With My Own

Fiona O’ Dwyer’s work for her exhibition centres around the idea and reality of human movement, taking as its starting point her own family's migration and displacement in 1950's Ireland. The subject matter and imagery are very much rooted in a visual and sound language while also possessing a musicality and experiential poetic nature.   A fully illustrated catalogue will coincide with the exhibition.

Mary Swanzy: Voyages

Mary Swanzy  was a pioneering figure in Irish Art who witnessed the birth of Modern Art and after 1914 exhibited at the Paris Salons alongside those artists who are now household names.  Over 40 works will be on display in this fascinating exhibition ending its tour around Ireland, initiated by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and curated by Seán Kissane.

The exhibitions run from 21 June – 25 August 2019.
