STATE OF PRINT (SOP) – an “ artists-led nation”
29 November 2019 - 26 January 2020
an “ artists-led nation” with its own manifesto, passports and visas – is not so much an exhibition as a proposition. State of Print reimagines what it means to create and be part of a collective power and this exhibition brings the structures and ideas inherent in printmaking itself to that discourse.
For the exhibition at LCGA, will explore the physicality of maps and borders. This will have particular resonance post BREXIT as the status of the border between the Republic of Ireland and the UK is determined. The exhibition finishes its European tour in Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA).
STATE OF PRINT
The State Of Print is a proposition. An evolving visual declaration intiated by a collective of artists beguiled and amused at the catastrophe of currne social political thinking and the comedy of established systems of governance.
We propose to cast adrift on a nonsense of our own (prin)making – a makeshift non geographical region build upon the flow and ink and the a constitutional raft of recycled cardboard. The intention is to explore the current state of nations and the notin that everything that formalises a nation state if printed – money maps, laws, information, govermance, monarchies etc.
The State of Print has no boundaries. It has the potential to expand by invitation – with each contributor becoming a citizen of the State of Print – and can be reconstituted and reconfigured continually. At a time when the current state of nation power is globally inflexible and dogmatic.
