Selected works from Permanent Collection April - June 2017

This selection from the Permanent Collection reflects on links to the other exhibitions on display, Reconstructing Memory by Cléa van der Grijn and the Graeve Collection, from The Model, Sligo.

The artists include: Barrie Cooke, Dorothy Cross, Mickey Donnelly, Rita Duffy, Martin Folan, Anita Groener, Karin Giusti, Aileen McKeon, Brian Maguire, Alfonso Monreal, Piet Mogg, T.O. Colbaird, Patrick Scott & Sotteno Tiburcio.

The terracotta ceramic sculpture by Sotteno Tiburcio of the Arbol de la Vid (Tree of Life) is a link to Mexican culture which was major influence on Cléa van der Grijn exhibition Reconstructing Memory. Tiburcio’s splendid clay sculptures show scenes from Mexican history, the cycle of life and death, or The Nativity. The silkscreen by Karin Guisti also refers to the idea of death as does the formal painting by T.O. Colbaird.

Dorothy Cross, Barrie Cooke, Patrick Scott, Rita Duffy & Alfonso Monreal are artists which are linked to The Graeve Collection exhibition showing artworks by the same artists which were produced around the same period.

The works by Brian Maguire, Anita Groener, Mickey Donnelly, Patrick Scott and Alfonso Monreal are works on loan to the Permanent Collection of LCGA from the Collection of Maurice & Maire Foley.
