Carl Doran,

October - November 2021
Limerick City Gallery of Art, Herbert Gallery

This Autumn/Winter 2021, Limerick City Gallery of Art launches the inaugural pilot residency programme, Test Space Residency.

This new and forward-thinking residency model aspires to meet the needs of a wide range of art practitioners, in a bid to realise LCGA’s vision as a model of a 21st century civic space.

LCGA has invited Limerick-based artist, Carl Doran, as the first onsite artist in residence.

This programme considers the availability of both physical and virtual LCGA space, and is informed by the Arts Council’s EHRD Policy and Strategy.  Two artists (one working onsite and one remotely) have been asked to select a community or topic of interest to work with.

Carl will be based at LCGA for a period of 8 weeks, using a purpose made open studio in the Herbert Gallery (Test Space).  He has indicated an interest in working with local communities through a series of interactive activities over his time in residency.

Carl Doran is a Visual Artist based in Limerick. Originally from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, he studied in Falmouth, Cornwall initially, and completed his BA in Painting in Limerick School of Art & Design.  Doran’s work is represented in the Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) Permanent Collection, University of Limerick (UL) and the Dundalk Municipal Art Collection. In 2018 he was inducted into the National Self-Portrait collection in the University of Limerick.  He founded Gallery Interlude in 2018, a pop up exhibition space and lobbying podium for sustainable art spaces in Limerick city, promoting the work and contribution of Contact Studios Artists.  He has been a team member of Askeaton Contemporary Arts since 2007, and has been a member of Wickham Street Studios for 3 years.
