Behind Smoke & Mirrors Curatorial Tour & Catalogue Launch
Sunday 30th August @ 3pm
Aideen BARRY, Bernardine CARROLL / Maggie Shirley, Garvan GALLAGHER, Carl GiFFNEY, Emma Wade
This week is your final opportunity to visit the BEHIND SMOKE & MIRRORS exhibition at LCGA. A closing reception on Sunday 30th will include a tour with the curator and artists, together with the launch of the extensive catalogue which documents the project. The full colour 60page document charts the project visually, incorporating texts by curator Susan Holland which examine the processes, challenges and outcomes of the Open Studio Residency and Exhibition. This catalogue documents the experimental nature of the Behind Smoke & Mirrors project and it's focus on process and dialogue. The project centralised around the invitation to gallery visitors to reassess personal experience artistic production through meeting artists and examining their process first hand. Paralleling the Open Studio ethos of exploring artistic production and exhibition, the catalogue text provides further insights into how Aideen, Garvan, Emma, Bernardine and Carl engaged with the public context of the gallery and the negotiation of opening up their practices. The examination of curatorial imperative and role, within exhibition facilitation and development, provides another viewpoint from which to consider the project.
Behind Smoke & Mirrors catalogue will be officially launched on Sunday 30th August.
